Comedian Shandling Dies, 66

SANTA MONICA, CA – Yesterday, the Emmy-award-winning comedian, writer and producer Garry Shandling died after being rushed to a Los Angeles hospital. While there is no official report, sources are saying the cause of death was a heart attack. Shandling’s sudden passing stunned friends and fellow comedians because there had been no warning of any illness. Best known for his 1990s self-doubting talk-show host on HBO’s “The Larry Sanders Show”, Shandling began his career writing for Sandford & Son and Welcome Back, Kotter. It was a successful standup performance on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson that led to him becoming a frequent guest host on the show. Comedian, Kathy Griffin, after hearing of the death tweeted, “Sunday, my longtime friend Garry Shandling was here, making everyone laugh. I loved him. I’ll miss our talks the most.” Gary Shandling was 66.
