Ken Howard, 71, Dies

The Emmy-award-winning actor and President of the Screen Actors Guild, Ken Howard, has died at his home in Los Angeles. Howard was elected to the Guild in 2009, and was instrumental in the merger with the American Federation of Radio & Television Artists. He won is Emmy for his performance opposite Jessica Lange in the 2009 HBO film Grey Gardens. Howard is best remembered for the drama The White Shadow that aired from 1978-1981, dealing with the story of the relationship between a white basketball coach and a predominantly black basketball team. Actress, Gabrielle Carteris will assume the position of acting President to the Guild. Cause of death has not been disclosed. Ken Howard was 71.
