Scholarship Honor Fallen Officers

NEW CITY – Rockland County Legislature Chairman Alden H. Wolfe is informing the public of a scholarship fund created in memory of two slain Rockland police officers. The O’Grady-Brown Memorial Scholarship Fund seeks to honor and perpetuate the names of two tragically slain police offers who gave their full measure of duty during the Oct. 20, 1981 Brink’s robbery. The scholarships are awarded to deserving students that are pursuing careers of public service in law enforcement. Nyack Police Officers Sgt. Edward O’Grady and Officer Waverly “Chipper” Brown were killed during the Brinks robbery, as was Brink’s Guard Peter Paige. Paige, was killed during a $1.8M armored car heist that took place at what is now, The Shops at Nanuet. Both police officers were killed during the escape attempt in a shootout at the Mountainview Road entrance to the state Thruway in Nyack. If you are a graduating high school senior and/or matriculated undergraduate student pursuing degrees related to advancing a career in law enforcement you can apply by no later than April 15th.
