Second School Gun Found

QUEENS – Yesterday, at York Early College Academy a 15-year old boy in the 10th grade brought a loaded .38 caliber revolver to school. A female student overheard the boy threatening another student with the gun and reported it to school authorities. Police arrived at approximately 9am and the child was arrested. This is the second such incident in two weeks. Last week, at Public School 40 an elementary school on Union Hall Street in Jamaica, an 11-year old brought a loaded Hi-point 9-millimeter pistol in his backpack. The gun belonged to his grandfather, Kenneth Miley, a 54-year-old Queens resident living two blocks from the school. Miley was arrested for criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment. According to the police department four guns have been seized in NYC schools this school year. A total of nine guns were seized during the entire 2014-15 school year.
