GEORGIA – Due to a possible health risk, a voluntary recall of canned Bumble Bee chunk light Tuna has been announced by Bumble Bee Foods and Tri-Union Seafoods. Both companies stated in a press release, “These deviations were part of the commercial sterilization process and could result in contamination by spoilage organisms or pathogens, which could lead to life-threatening illness if consumed.” At this time, no illnesses in connection with the recalled tuna have been reported. Bumble Bee announced they are recalling 31,579 cases of canned tuna produced in February 2016. Tri-Union Seafoods is recalling 2,745 cases of Chicken of the Sea brand that they are claiming may be undercooked due to machine malfunction. Those cases were produced between February and March 2016. No other products were harmed due to an internal investigation. Bumble Bee and Tri-union are working with the FDA to pull the product back. They are recommending that if you find the product on your shelf to throw it away. You can contact Bumble Bee at 888-820-1947 or Tri-Union Seafoods at 866-600-2681 for more information and reimbursement.
