Settlement “No Haitians Need Apply”

NANUET – A settlement has been reached in the discriminatory investigation regarding an ad placed by a local franchise of Interim Healthcare of Greater New York, one of the largest health care agencies in the nation for providing home care services and staffing. In October 2015, a local Interim office placed an ad in the New City PennySaver seeking nurses with a “no Haitians need apply” clause. Even though Interim made an apology for the ad, the discriminatory nature outraged many in the Rockland community and alerted the State’s Attorney General’s office to begin an investigation. Senator David Carlucci, on WRCR’s Morning Show yesterday, announced that the New York State’s Attorney General’s office had reached a settlement with Interim Healthcare of $100,000 dollars and a forced “best practices” agreement so it, “doesn’t happen again.” The ad violated federal and state civil rights laws that prohibit discrimination in hiring based on national origin.
