Florida Mom Shot by 4-Year-Old

PUTNAM COUNTY, FLORIDA – Jamie Gilt, a 31-year mother with a strong pro-gun stance was shot Tuesday by her 4-year old son and is now in stable condition. While on patrol, a sherrif’s deputy saw Gilt’s truck stopped in the travel lanes and a woman motioning for help. According to law enforcement, Gilt was in the driver’s seat and her 4-year old was in the backseat, behind her. Captain Joseph Wells stated, “He shot straight through. The bullet entered her lower back and exited through her abdominal area.” She had been shot with a .45 caliber handgun, found at the scene, according to law enforcement. Jamie Gilt maintained a FaceBook page titled, “Jamie Gilt for Gun Sense” where she is quoted as saying, “Even my 4-year-old gets jacked up to target shoot with the .22” Her social media pages have been closed and detectives are waiting for Gilt’s medical condition to improve so they can interview her. It is a misdemeanor in Florida for anyone to store or leave a firearm that is loaded so that a child could gain access. The investigation is ongoing.
