ALLEN PARK, MICHIGAN – Calvin Johnson, the all-time leading receiver of the Detroit Lions has announced he is retiring after nine professional seasons. Over the course of his career he garnered 11,000 receiving yards, seven 1,000-yard seasons, and six Pro Bowl invitations. Johnson is highly respected as a consummate professional. In a statement released by Johnson yesterday he stated, “After much prayer, thought and discussion with loved ones, I have made the difficult decision to retire from the Lions and Pro Football. I have played my last game of football.” He noted in his statement his regret that he had not been able to give Detroit fans a championship, and closed by saying, “I am confident that our fans will soon be rewarded with the championship you so deserve.”
