Animal Cruelty Law Monticello

MONTICELLO – A registry for animal abusers, similar to those already in place in Orange and Ulster counties, is under consideration in Sullivan County. At last Thursday’s Sullivan County Legislature committee meetings, two residents called for the measure. According to MidHudson news, a local Fallsburg School District teacher, Richard Chiger, asked the board to “legislate with a heart”. Rocky’s Law was adopted by Orange County almost a year ago. The law provides that anyone convicted of animal cruelty is suspended for a period of time from owning an animal. Similar laws are presently in place in Rockland, Albany and Nassau.
