NJ Transit Talks Continue

New Jersey – NJ Transit and Gov. Christie continue to negotiate a deal that must be reached this coming Sunday, March 13th at 12:01 am. As the deadline looms NJ transportation agencies throughout the region warn that present plans to keep over 100,000 commuters moving into Manhattan will only provide transportation for approximately 40,000 through the use of PATH trains, ferries, light rail, private buses, and additional NJ Transit buses — leaving 65,000 commuters seeking alternative methods of transportation. Metro-North is recommending customers traveling the Hudson River line to anticipate delays, crowded conditions, and to prepare now by discussing flex time options and telecommuting with their employers. Other options include staying with friends or family in New York for immediate access to public transportation; and using agency websites to connect with carpools by using New York State’s Rideshare tool. Transportation agencies recommend commuters stay informed on agency websites and the traffic website 511.org .
