Thruway Authority Announces Construction Of New NY Bridge Building To Begin

The New York Thruway Authority released a statement announcing construction on the new, 26,000-square-foot maintenance building at 333 South Broadway in Tarrytown set to begin in the Spring. The structure at the base of the New NY Bridge, will house Thruway personnel including: administration, emergency response, mechanics, electricians, and dock crews among other resources. To emphasize sustainability, the building will be designed to be LEED certified, an acronym for Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design. According to the release, water use will be reduced and indoor temperatures and automatic lighting will also aid in energy use. In addition to this, much of the materials used to construct the building will be made from recycled steel, aluminum, concrete, glass and even the carpet. New York State Thruway Authority Interim Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer Maria Lehman explains that the design of the new building will facilitate emergency crews’ access to disabled and broken down vehicles cutting down on traffic times. Tappan Zee Constructors hope to complete the project by 2018 and will also build a new barracks where the old one began demolition from April of last year.
