Bharara Finds “Insufficient Evidence” In Investigation Into Cuomo

United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Preet Bharara explained in a two sentence press release today, that there was “insufficient evidence to prove a federal crime” in his investigation of Cuomo’s involvement in absolving the Moreland Commission. Cuomo, who set up the independent commission in 2013 to weed-out corruption in Albany, came under fire a few months later when an investigation into officials close to the his administration showed their intervening to prevent the panel from contacting donors to the Governor’s campaign. Bharara criticized Cuomo when he disbanded the commission and vowed to continue investigation into corruption and received documents from the panel upon request. Having received the documents nearly two years ago from April of 2014, Bharara said in the release that, “We continue to have active investigations related to substantive inquiries that were being conducted by the Moreland Commission at the time of its closure.”
