Astorino Announces Plans For Bioscience Center

Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino announced his plans to finalize a $1.2 billion bioscience park to be built close to the Westchester Medical Center. The project, slated to be called the Westchester Bioscience & Technology Center, is subject to approval by the Town of Mount Pleasant which could take 18 months to complete. The proposed site will cover 2.25 million square feet of research space including a medical office, hotel, and retail areas. If approved for construction, the project could create 4,000 construction jobs and 8,000 full and part-time positions and net about $9 million in real estate taxes to the County. Astorino met with Fareri Associates of Greenwich, Connecticut and convened for over two years to develop the lease proposal and said of the project, “It respects the environment by employing the latest green technologies and leaving half the property as open space. And it expands the county’s growing leadership in the fields of biotechnology and medical science.”
