Monroe Appoints Temporary Town Supervisor

The board of an Orange County town met at their usual reorganization meeting on Monday night, where members spontaneously appointed a temporary Supervisor. Monroe town officials attended the meeting where new council members Tony Cardone and Mike McGinn were sworn in and the board announced that they unanimously voted Cardone in as acting Supervisor while current Supervisor Harley Doles is on medical leave. Residents attending the meeting stated to News 12 that they feel this is a good turn around for the town, considering recent decisions made by the board to allow the predominantly Hasidic Jewish neighboring village of Kyrias Joel, town land to build multifamily housing. Cordone’s appointment surprised attendees, as Doles had previously appointed Councilman Jerry McQuaid. It’s unknown how long Cardone will be Supervisor, but both he and McGinn stated that there will be a more transparent take on town government and finances this year.
