Governor Cuomo Signs New Smoke Detector Regulations

New York State officials announced this week that there will now be restrictions on the sale of smoke detectors. The new law will take effect on January 1,2017 and will prohibit the sale of detectors with replaceable batteries as a way to prevent safety hazards made worse by residents forgetting to check their batteries. According to the Legislation signed by Governor Andrew Cuomo on Monday, new detectors must contain ten-year non-removable batteries, representatives stating that having a working detector can be the difference between life and death.
