Rockland Community College Professor Sentenced With No Jail Time

A Rockland County Community College faculty member who was arrested in 2014 has avoided jail time, agreeing to pay back the money he was charged with stealing. Former English professor and Union President Clifford Garner was charged with grand larceny for taking $230,000 from the college over four years, his lawyer Daniel Bertolino stating that he was using the money to pay for divorce payments to his wife, and expenses from trips to the United Kingdom with RCC students. Bertolino also stated at Garner’s sentencing on Tuesday that his client was in the process of paying back the money he borrowed, already paying $40,000 before his arrest. A Rockland County judge ordered that Garner get five years probation and pay the money back to the school as well as 250 hours of community service.
