Westchester Phone Scammers Arrested

Five people were arrested in Texas after they were connected to a scam in Westchester. Police held a conference on Tuesday where officials stated they used evidence and surveillance to track a group of people who pulled the “Grandparent Scam” on a 92-year old Harrison woman, stealing $308,000 from her before heading to Missouri City, Texas. One of those arrested allegedly pretended to be a police sergeant and told the woman her grandson was in jail and needed to be bailed out. Those arrested were aged 28-54 and from New Jersey, the Bronx, and Texas, and were charged with a felony count of second-degree larceny. Police are warning residents to be vigilant of phone calls and contact police immediately after being asked to deposit money into unknown accounts.
