East Ramapo Monitors Recommend Veto Power for School District

The team of monitors appointed by the state Education Department to analyze East Ramapo, stated that they will be recommending a stronger monitor for the school district. Dennis Walcott has led the three-person team that includes an expert on school turn-around and a finance specialist, since they were appointed in August, and has spent time attending meetings with the board and residents, as well as visiting both private and public schools. In 2014 the first monitor Hank Greenberg recommended in his report that the state appoint a monitor with the power to override decisions made by the board, and now Walcott and his team are urging the same thing. Though they have not submitted their complete report yet, the monitors are expected to announce their recommendation for veto power to the Board of Regents this morning.
