East Ramapo School District’s Search for Superintendent Has Begun

East Ramapo School District officials met at Tuesday’s board meeting to discuss the search for the new Superintendent of schools. The interim Superintendent Deborah Wortham was not able to be present when officials announced that the School Leadership firm, who did attend the meeting, has begun the search, starting with a list of specifications. The New York City based firm is looking at about 15-20 candidates right now, and will need to narrow it down, though school board President Yehudi Weissmandl stated they will consider her if she chooses to apply for the permanent position. The future Superintendent will be taking on several issues attached to the district, including the team of monitors appointed by the state Education Department following complaints that private school students were being favored over those who attend public schools, and the recent resignation of Superintendent Joel Klein after he made comments toward Latino students many parents found offensive.
