NYPD Officer Critically Injured in Orange County Crash

According to State Police an NYPD officer was seriously injured in a car accident on Sunday night. Police stated that 32-year old Alex Penate was driving North near Exit 16 of I-87 around 8:35 PM, when his Jeep Wrangler struck a Hyundai being driven by 29-year old Wallkill resident Aaron Jeronimus, and flipped multiple times. Senate, a Highland Mills resident and married father of three, was thrown from the car and airlifted to Westchester Medical Center for head trauma and internal injuries, where he remains in critical condition. Jeronimus and his passenger were not injured. Police are continuing to investigate what caused Penate to lose control.
