New York Governor to Veto or Pass Additional Medical Marijuana Bill

According to New York Assemblyman Ryan Gottfried, who sponsored a bill that was passed in the Legislature in June, it is now being looked at by Governor Andrew Cuomo. The Medical Marijuana Expedited Access Bill would allow sick patients whose conditions might worsen to obtain the drug incase the new statewide program is not ready by its expected January 2016 deadline. Officials with Cuomo’s office stated that the program is being set up as quickly as possible, and will give patients access to non-smokeable forms of marijuana such as oil. Gottfried stated that with the Expedited Access bill the Health Department would be able to modify requirements for certain patients with serious illnesses, such as children with epilepsy. Cuomo can either pass or veto the bill by November 11.
