25 Arrested in Rockland for Unemployment Fraud

Rockland County District Attorney Thomas Zugibe met with officials at a Thursday press conference, where they announced a number of arrests on felony charges of grand larceny. Zugibe stated that his office, along with authorities from state, federal, and local offices completed an investigation into unemployment fraud that uncovered 25 people had been lying about searching for a job while collecting more than $160,000 from New York State. Those arrested were allegedly living in the Dominican Republic while having others in the Haverstraw area file for unemployment benefits on their behalf via telephone or internet. Each person collected between $1,400 and $22,179 and face up to seven years in prison.
