Bedford Superintendent Appointed as NY Deputy Education Secretary

Superintendent of the Bedford School District, Jere Hochman, has been appointed as the Deputy Education Secretary in Governor Andrew Cuomo’s administration. Hochman will be leaving the district to advise Cuomo in decisions regarding the educational system in New York, and is an outspoken opponent of Common Core testing. The Superintendent since 2008, has stated in the past that the ideas behind Common Core make sense, but the testing is over the top. He will leave his current position with Bedford schools on November 6, and an interim Superintendent will be appointed by the school board until an outside firm hires a new person by July 1 of next year. Cuomo released a statement saying that Hochman’s experience as an educator will help the state to create policies that benefit the public schools and students in each district.
