Police Chief and Rockland Sheriff Candidate Suspended from Position

The Police Chief of an Orange County town has been suspended from his position without pay, following what he calls a political ploy. Woodbury Town Police Chief and candidate for Rockland County Sheriff, Richard Vasquez, was suspended this week from the job he has held since 2012. According to statements made by Vasquez, Woodbury Supervisor Ralph Caruso suspended him because of an incident earlier in the year, where he refused to take the department’s cars to a mechanic in town because the work was not up to standards. Caruso told News 12 that the issue was a personnel problem, and had no further comment. Vasquez called the suspension political, and stated he will continue his campaign for Sheriff until the November 3 election date.
