Schumer Urges FDA to Regulate Halloween Makeup

New York Senator Charles Schumer held a press conference last week, where he urged the Federal Government to regulate Halloween makeup. The senator stated that much of the makeup for sale during the Halloween season has been tested and shown to have high levels of lead. Lead can lead to a variety of health risks, especially in children and according to Schumer the campaign for safe cosmetics found that out of ten makeups tested in a small study, all of them contained lead and six of them contained nickel, cobalt and or chromium. The use of lead in makeup is illegal in Europe and Canada, but not in the U.S. Schumer is now asking that the Food and Drug Administration begin routinely testing novelty cosmetics, and warned parents to check any makeup before applying it to children.
