Rockland County is only the seventh county in the state to equip the service and is seen as a step forward in reporting emergencies in situations where an individual cannot dial and speak to a 911 operator as well as for those who are deaf or hard of hearing to contact emergency services. Sheriff Falco stated that he hopes in the future, 911 technology will eventually be able to accept photos to aid in reporting emergency situations. CLIP. To use the Text-to-911 system, callers must be in range of a cell tower for Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Metro PCS however, Adam Feuer, Chief of the Sheriff’s Communications Division emphasizes that calling is still the preferred method of communication.
