Westchester County Executive Decides Not To Ban Gun Shows

Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino announced on Monday that there will be no permanent ban on gun shows held at the County Center. Over the weekend Greenburgh Supervisor Paul Feiner sent a letter to the County Executive’s Office urging that following the killing of nine people at an Oregon Community College by a shooter on Thursday, officials ban the annual shows at the county facility. According to the Journal News Ned McCormack, a spokesman for Astorino, stated there are no plans to terminate the shows. McCormack stated to the paper, “Banning shows where the sales of firearms to law abiding citizens are fully monitored and include background checks, does not address the fundamental causes behind the horrific killings.” Weiner state that while there are no shows scheduled this year, not holding them in the County Center would be a stance against the violence in recent months.
