Greenburgh Supervisor Urges Ban of Gun Show

Officials in Westchester are speaking out following the death of nine victims by a shooter at a community college in Oregon last week. Greenburgh Supervisor Paul Feiner released a letter he sent to County Executive Rob Astorino, urging that the county ban the annual gun show for good. After the Newtown shooting, Westchester officials temporarily cancelled the show, which is held at the County Center, but it was held again the following year. Feiner stated in his message to Astorino, “Although people have the right to purchase and own guns, the easy availability of guns may be a contributing factor to the recent tragedy in Oregon and the violence taking place around the country.” Though there appears to be no gun show scheduled for this year, Feiner is requesting that county government take a stance against violence by not holding the show in county owned facilities.
