Avoid Fake MLB Playoff Ticket Scams

Baseball fans in New York and New Jersey are being put on alert to avoid major league baseball ticket scams circulating now that both hometown teams will appear in the playoffs. Attorney General Eric Schneiderman issued a statement that included tips to ensure fans not purchase fake tickets. The New York Mets and Yankees are encouraging fans to make ticket purchases on their websites where there is no potential for fake tickets. Individuals buying from ticket brokers should check for New York state licensure and will be listed with positive ratings on Better Business Bureau or other consumer complaint sites. Avoid paying by cash or wire transfer which cannot be disputed or refunded if the tickets end up being a scam. The release also recalls the 2014 Super Bowl which was hosted at Met Life Stadium in New Jersey when hundreds of fake tickets and merchandise were seized by officials in a large scheme worth million of dollars. If you have any information or believe you have been a victim of a ticket scam, call the Consumer Frauds Bureau at 1-800-771-7755.
