Congers Woman Among 25 Named in Heroin Trafficking Ring

According to a release by Kings County District Attorney Ken Thompson, 25 individuals from Brooklyn, Staten Island, and Queens have been indicted for taking part in a heroin trafficking ring, one woman, 29 year-old Sheila Rodriguez, from Rockland County. the 368-count indictment includes charges of conspiracy, money laundering, and sale and possession of a controlled substance. Thompson went on to explain that the investigation which began in January of this year, used electronic, video, and physical surveillance to focus on Josie Tavera, 25, of Brooklyn and his family members where much of the distribution and drug-related activity occurred at their apartment. Other key players were Jason Collazo, 36 from Staten Island, who worked as a community service supervisor at the Midtown Manhattan Community Court and Michael Mineo, 37, also from Staten Island who worked as a drug counselor. All 25 defendants are being charged with second-degree conspiracy punishable by up to 25 years in prison.
