Teens From Black Friday Hate Crime Incident Get Probation

Two Westchester teens arrested and charged with assault for a Palisades Center Mall incident from Black Friday of last year, were seen in Rockland County Court today and will serve probation in place of jail time. At the time, Chris Bujaj, of Tuckahoe, and Ardijian Mehaj, of Yonkers were under 18 years of age when they were joined by another teen, taking advantage of the early morning crowds and attempted to “punch-out” shoppers, targeting some Orthodox Jews while yelling anti-Semitic comments. Judge Rolf Thorsen gave them youthful offender status along with five years of probation who were initially charged with third-degree misdemeanor assault and third-degree assault as a hate crime. A third assailant, Forend Gjevukaj, 18 of Yonkers was identified and charged after the fact and will be sentenced in December for his part in the incident.
