2016 Rockland County Budget Proposal

Rockland County Executive Ed Day spoke with the Journal News this week, after discussions about the 2016 budget have been brought up by county officials in recent weeks. According to Day, his office is working on a proposal that will be released on October 1 and will focus on paying back major deficits accumulated by the county in the past, mostly by asking departments to cut 5-10% in spending. The Legislature must agree with Day on a budget by December 4, though the sale of the Summit Park Hospital will likely play a large part in the decision making process. The hospital is expected to be sold on September 30, for $32 million and according to Day’s interview with the newspaper, will help Rockland begin to pay off the $17.5 million in debt. The County Executive’s proposal is for $750 million and he stated it might include layoffs and tax increases, though he did not specify.
