Small Plane Crashes In Cresskill

A small plane carrying two men, crashed into an athletic field in Cresskill, New Jersey Thursday afternoon. Yakov Rosenberg, a resident of Spring Valley, piloted the single-engine cessna and suffered serious injuries in the incident and was treated at Hackensack University Medical Center. Reportedly, Rosenberg was doing survey work of the Hudson River for the Coast Guard Auxiliary before radioing air traffic controllers at LaGuardia Airport of problems, hoping to land the plane in the the Hudson. The sole passenger was also treated for serious injuries but is expected to recover. Preliminary investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration indicates there may have been some mechanical issue as Rosenberg noted a “rough-running engine.” Witnesses remarked that they didn’t see the low flying plane on fire but did recall seeing smoke before it went down behind the swim club. Cresskill Police Chief Ed Wrixon commented that had the crash happened a little later, the field would have been littered with youth sports teams scheduled for practice. Cresskill firefighters and EMTs responded quickly as the field is located two blocks from the firehouse.
