Lower Announces Funding For Bullet Proof Vests

Congresswoman Nita Lowey announced just under $80,000 in funds from the Department of Justice to supply bulletproof vests to local law enforcement throughout the 17th Congressional District of Rockland and Westchester. The Bulletproof Vest Partnership, will bring fourteen municipalities, 201 vests out of the 2,336 vests distributed in all of New York State. The BVP was created in 1998 by the Department of Justice and has awarded over a million vests since its inception to over 13,000 jurisdictions in 20 states. Clarkstown Police Department Lieutenant Daniel Weinberg said of the new equipment, “The safety of our officers is the top priority. We certainly appreciate the efforts of our elected officials to secure funds for need equipment like this.” White Plains City Police Department Chief James M. Bradley appreciated the vests saying they are the “number one way to protect your officers from serious bodily harm.”
