Bystander Killed in Westchester Shooting

A 61-year old Westchester man died over the weekend from injuries he sustained in a police shootout on Friday afternoon. According to NYPD officials, during an undercover investigation into 28-year old Jeffrey Aristy, who was allegedly selling illegal guns, an officer was completing the transaction with another man and Aristy in Mount Vernon when the unnamed suspect pulled a gun. The officer fired and hit the suspect three times as well as accidentally hitting Felix Kumi of Mount Vernon. It was announced Saturday morning that Kumi died from his injuries overnight on Friday. The bystander was a bus driver who lived with his family a few blocks from the shooting on Beekman and Tecumseh Avenues. The suspect is being treated for injuries and is in custody.
