According to police in Westchester County, a man has been arrested in connection to a fire at a New York State Thruway Authority facility earlier this week. On Tuesday around 5:00 PM firefighters responded to calls of heavy smoke and flames coming from the salt shed on Fifth Avenue in Mamaroneck, which was completely destroyed. According to officials the flames also damaged several pieces of equipment in another building close by. Police stated that 54-year old Richard Cass, of Pittsfield Massachusetts, was arrested on Wednesday and charged with arson for allegedly starting the fire after the building closed for business. The man was apparently employed as an electrician by the Thruway Authority and the fire destroyed most of the salt to be used this winter, though officials from the agency are investigating the impact further. Cass will be seen in court on August 31.
