Newburgh Men Arrested on Drug Charges in New Jersey

Two men from Newburgh are facing a number of drug charges after being arrested along the Palisades Parkway over the weekend. According to the press release by the Parkway Police, an officer spotted the blue Acura with tinted break light covers and tinted window and proceeded to stop the vehicle at Exit 2 for Alpine, New Jersey. When the officer approached the vehicle he smelled a strong odor of burnt marijuana. The officer asked the occupants to exit the car and with assistance from other officers both men were searched. The passenger, Joel Bruno, was found to have a switchblade knife and was immediately placed into custody. The driver, Ivan Hernandez-Luis gave consent to search the vehicle, upon searching officers found 400 envelopes of what is believed to be heroin, a clear bag of marijuana, and cigars, as well as rolling paper and a rolling machine. The heroin weighed 4.72 ounces, which has a street value of $6,600. Both men face charges of possession of marijuana under 50 grams, possession of heroin, possession of heroin with intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia. The driver is facing motor vehicle violations as well. Both are being held on $35,000 bail.
