State Officials Requesting Aid to fight Violence in Poughkeepsie

U.S. Representative Sean Patrick Maloney held a press conference on Thursday calling on the state Department of Justice to provide parts of Dutchess County with assistance in the rise of violent crimes this summer. Maloney stated that the DOJ needs to take action in funding the hiring of police officers for the city of Poughkeepsie, which according to data has seen an increase in violence in the last year, including nine shootings this summer alone. If the city obtains funding through New York’s COPS Hiring Program, the police department would be able to hire five additional officers over the next three years. Local and state officials attending the conference agreed with Representative Maloney and the much needed funding and the rise in violence is proof of that.
