Legionnaires Disease Found in Orangeburg

As New York State aids New York City in the cleaning and testing of cooling systems during the large outbreak of Legionnaires Disease found in the South Bronx, Rockland officials have confirmed one person in the town of Orangeburg has been diagnosed with symptoms. On Friday an employee at the Chromalloy Gas Turbine Corporation was treated at a local hospital and sent home to recover from illness caused by the Legionella Bacteria, though officials stated it has not been connected to the cases in New York City, which have caused ten deaths so far and made hundreds of people sick. The plant shut down on Friday and followed OSHA recommendations and requirements to begin evaluating the incident. Officials stated that the Rockland County Health Department is aware of the case and OSHA will be returning for inspections.
