Former Spring Valley Mayor Sentenced to Prison Time

A former Rockland politician was sentenced on Friday on charges of wire fraud and extortion. Former Spring Valley Mayor Noramie Jasmin was arrested in 2013 for accepting a $5,000 bribe in exchange for political favors from a business man who was working as an informant with the FBI. In April Jasmin was found guilty of those charges, and on Friday was sentenced in White Plains Federal Court to four years in prison, which will begin on November 2. She was also charged a fine of $20,000. Judge Colleen McMahon stated that the prosecution’s requested ten years in prison was excessive, but prison time was necessary for the crimes committed.
