Parents Sue East Ramapo School District

On Tuesday Rockland parents served a lawsuit against the East Ramapo School District. The legal actions were filed against every board member except for Yonah Rothman and Bernard Charles who were absent, as well as against Superintendent Joel Klein and the district, and claim that officials failed to complete their fiscal responsibilities by hiring an “excessively expensive” law firm. The activist group of parents and residents are being represented by Advocates for Justice, a pro-bono law firm. One of the suits is calling for those named to repay the district for costs from their legal defense that had been provided by taxpayer money between 2012 and 2014, totaling more than $187,500. The documents were served to each member before Tuesday’s board meeting, where parents continued calling for the removal or resignation of Klein from his position as Superintendent.
