Fire at Orangeburg Senior Complex

Rockland County firefighters responded to a blaze in Orangeburg on Saturday night, fighting flames that were quickly spreading through a two-story senior complex. Volunteers from seven departments arrived at the Cortwood Village Senior Complex around 11:00 PM, where Orangetown Police were helping to evacuate residents from 25 apartments in the buildings. Officials stated that the cause of the fire is being investigated and the flames appeared to being by spreading up the siding of the building and through the roof, damaging 20 of the 24 apartments that burned, which are now uninhabitable. No residents were reported injured.
