Tappan Zee Bridge Delays In The Coming Week

The State Thruway Authority is warning drivers of possible delays during the overnight hours over the next week, as they install the temporary tollbooths. The multiple lane closures will take place on the southbound thruway in the area approaching Exit 11 and extending beyond Exit 10. According to the information in the press release, the temporary all-electronic toll collection system will allow tolls to be collected at normal highway speeds, using cameras, while reducing the impact on traffic. Testing for the system is scheduled to take place this Fall, and is set to be in place beginning in early 2016. Once the new temporary tolls open, the toll plaza in Tarrytown will close and a new, permanent all-electronic collector system will be built. In addition to the multiple lane closures, the exit 10 ramp to the southbound Thruway will be closed from 8 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. during the overnights of Wednesday, July 15, Thursday, July 16 and Friday, July 17. Drivers will be directed to use the on-ramp from Route 59 in Nyack. Closures on all days will start at 8pm and be re-opened by 6am the next morning. Officials state that there may be periodic traffic stops lasting up to 10 minutes to ensure the safety of workers and drivers. One lane will be open at all times during the lane closures, with the exception of the traffic stops.
