Candle Vigil for Charleston Held in Nyack

Hundreds of people gathered at Memorial Park in Nyack on Wednesday night to hold a candle vigil for the nine victims of the Charleston Church shooting that took place last week. Organized by the Nyack Clergy Association, Rockland residents said prayers and sang in memory of those killed when 21-year old Dylan Roof, who has been arrested, allegedly shot and killed members of a bible study at the Emanuel AME Church. The murders are being charged as hate-crimes, according to investigators the young man had multiple ties to white supremacy platforms. People from different religions and backgrounds met in the Nyack park and stated that remembrance is only the first step to healing the problems of hate in the country.
