U.S. Marshall Dies from 9/11 Related Illness

A Deputy U.S. Marshall and Nanuet resident has passed away from an illness connected to the 9/11 attacks. 50-year old September 11 first responder Zacarias Toro died from cancer at his home on Sunday, and his illness has been linked to toxic fumes he was exposed to at Ground Zero in 2001. Toro was stationed in Manhattan at the time of the attacks and aided in rescues at the site. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2013 and was awarded the U.S. Marshall Service’s Purple Heart Award just one week before he passed away. He is survived by his mother, wife, and four children. Visitation will be held at the Redeeming Love Christian Center in Nanuet on Thursday from 5 to 9 PM with a church service at 7:30 PM and the funeral will be held at 11:00 AM at the same location.
