Indian Point Unit 3 Shut Down After Electrical Disturbance

Entergy Spokesman Jerry Nappi released a statement regarding an electrical disturbance that occurred Monday evening at round 7:20pm which caused an automatic shut down of Indian Point Unit 3. The cause of the external electrical disturbance is unknown at this time and the following shut down was a protective measure during which all equipment operated as programmed. The release also clarifies that the public should not be alarmed as nothing was released during the incident and there is no threat to the workers. Unit 3 was the same generator which was shutdown from the May 9 fire, causing a response by emergency personnel, mineral oil to leak into the Hudson and public concern to resurface regarding the safety of the nuclear facility.
