TRIPS Gets New Buses

Rockland County’s TRIPS transportation, the paratransit bus service for senior residents and those with disabilities, has received nineteen new gas-running buses to better serve the community. The new buses feature better seating accommodations, and brighter lighting inside cabins. TRIPS serves over 64,000 residents, 30,000 of whom are also living with disabilities. George Hoehmann, executive director for the Rockland Independent Living Center acknowledged the deteriorating state of the current diesel fleet which should now improve with newer, reliable vehicles. The $1.12 million cost for the buses came from Federal and State funding, covering 93 percent of the total, County Executive Ed Day saying no county tax dollars were used with additional funding coming from the transportation budget.
