Anti-Defamation League Chides Rockland Republican Party For Controversial Video

The Anti-Defamation League released a statement Friday regarding the April 30 video uploaded by the Rockland Republican Party, expressing concern over its content that blames the Orthodox Jewish community for the illegal housing issues in the county. The video in support of Richard Vasquez for Rockland County Sheriff to unseat Sheriff Louis Falco is titled, “Where Does Louis Falco Stand on Illegal Housing?” and has an image of the Sheriff with Orthodox Jews as the narration states, “Sheriff Lou Falco has refused to enforce illegal housing laws.” Evan Bernstein, the New York Regional Director of the Anti-Defamation League urged editing the video as not to sway voters based on religious assertions. “We find the use of an image of visibly identifiable Jews in this campaign video to be deeply troubling, highly offensive and inappropriate…This county issue has nothing to do with the Rockland Jewish Community.” The Chairman of the Rockland Republican Party commented that it is within the sheriff department’s purview to enforce illegal housing and has not done enough to address the issue.
