Rockland Boulders Weekend Recap

The Rockland Boulders swept the series this weekend to the visiting Southshore Railcats from Gary, Indiana in interleague play. On Friday, the Boulders held off the Railcats in a 5-3 victory where the Boulders led 5-2 until the the top of the eighth when Railcats slugger J.D. Pulfer scored on a fielder’s choice off of Fray Martinez to cause a small scare before Luis Sanz closed out the game giving him his third win of the season. The Boulders faced less trouble Saturday in a 5-1 victory, testing the Railcats pitching staff, and showcasing the Boulders’ own arm strength with Stephen Harrold going seven innings allowing the only run after six strikeouts and just three hits. The Boulders only test this weekend came from Sunday’s 7-6 win after the Railcats struck first with a 2-0 lead in the first inning. The Boulders responded by scoring four runs in the bottom of the inning with both teams matching run for run to keep it a close effort throughout the game. Chad Robinson allowed a two run shot in the top of the eighth tying the game a 6 all before Stephen Cardullo’s solo homerun off of Railcat reliever Jessie Snodgrass gave them the 7-6 lead which Shawn Gilblair cemented in his one inning of relief, giving him his first win of the season.
