Funeral Procession To Block Traffic In Monsey

A funeral procession will be held today at 4 p.m. in Monsey for Rabbi Pinchus Shulem Hager, 67, who passed away this morning following surgery at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. Hager was the oldest son of Grand Rabbi Mordechai Hager, the leader of the global Viznitz Hasidic community who lives in Kaser (Kay-zer). The Ramapo police department are preparing for the upwards of thousands of people who may appear for the ceremony starting at the Viznitz synagogue at 25 Phyllis Terrace, walking to their destination at the Viznitz Cemetery in Monsey. The over mile-and-half walk down Route 306 will block off traffic including down side streets for which state police may assist the town authorities. The funeral began at 2 p.m. in Brooklyn which may delay the procession start time to after 4 p.m.
